The Sele School

Alumni of the 1960's

Cheryl Prax (nee Thake) - left Sele in 1969

Cheryl left The Sele School in 1969 in the fourth year (Year 10) because her parents moved to Harlow. After school she went into the printing trade working as an administrator and then moved into property management. However, Cheryl says that it was after she retired that she really began to expand her horizons.

On Monday 6 May Cheryl was honoured to accompany a friend who is an RAF Veteran aged 100 to attend the tea party at Buckingham Palace and watch the fly-past from the terrace. Below are some photos from the wonderful day that Cheryl and Sgt John W enjoyed at the Palace VE Day commemorative event.

VE Day 80th Anniversary Commemorations at Buckingham Palace

The VE Day 80 Celebrations have been amazing and on the actual Anniversary - Thursday 8 May - Cheryl and her friend Sgt John W attended a concert at the Royal Albert Hall to mark the date.

Previously, in 2024, Cheryl had accompanied her friend, who was a Sergeant in the RAF and flew 356 Berlin Airlift missions, to the 75th Berlin Airlift Commemorations in Berlin. They flew to Berlin in a four seat Cessna 182 aeroplane from the UK, entered the story of the trip into a flying competition and won third prize, with a presentation at the RAF Club earlier this year.

Cheryl also flew over The Sele School in 2024 and sent us some fantastic aerial photos which now form a Gallery on the website.
