The Sele School

Sport and Performing Arts Vision

Nurture talent and provide opportunity for every young person in the areas of Drama, Music and Sport to be inspired and achieve success. Enable students to develop the physical, social and emotional skills needed to believe in themselves, show consideration for others and value diversity. Promote a practical engagement in life-long learning.

Physical Education

The Sele School Physical Education department strives to nurture our young people’s individual social, psychological and physical well being and competency, to install a lifelong commitment to physical activity.

During PE Lessons at The Sele School, Students participate in a comprehensive programme of individual and team activities to cover all aspects of the national curriculum. Our PE curriculum allows students to progressively build on and embed their physical development and skills, to become more competent, confident and expert in their technique.

Girls typically cover Netball, Rugby, Trampolining, Gymnastics, Rounders, Athletics, HRF and OAA. Boys will follow a programme of Football, Rugby, Basketball, Trampolining, HRF, Athletics and Cricket.

Students in Key Stage 4 opt for lessons such as Football, netball, Rounders, tennis, Fitness and volleyball. Students in Key Stage 4 can opt to take either GCSE or BTEC PE, and students in Key Stage 5 follow the BTEC National Level 3 qualification.

Our students should develop the confidence and interest to get involved in exercise, sports and activities out of school and in later life. They should also understand and apply the long term health benefits of physical activity.

Gifted and Talented students are encouraged to join clubs inside and out of school.  Sele School students have achieved representative honours at School, District, County and National level.

The school facilitates an extensive Extracurricular Programme through the school's allocated Period 6 Programme.  During this time extracurricular clubs such as Rugby, Football, Netball, Tennis, Dodgeball, Cricket and Rounders are run. The school regularly competes in local fixtures against other schools in the Lea Valley Sports Association as well as numerous School Games competitions.

The school has extensive playing fields providing a mix of 7-a-side, Junior and four senior football pitches plus a rugby pitch and training grids. In the Summer there is an eight lane athletics’ track, well maintained throwing and jumping areas, several rounders pitches and two cricket squares.

We have three floodlit courts which are used throughout the year for netball and tennis. We also have a fully equipped Gymnasium and offer trampolining as well as more traditional gym based options.

The school’s Fitness Suite is equipped with state of the art cardiovascular and weights machines and multi-purpose gym. The Dance Studio is fully equipped with a professionally sprung dance floor, ballet barres and mirrors.
